The evaluation meeting of the Animate the Global Change project was held from 27 May to 1 June in Madeira. During the evaluation meeting, the coordinators of the organizations involved evaluated and analyzed the entire project under various perspectives: results obtained, process, practical phases, communication, efficiency, among other aspects. Ideas for future cooperation were also discussed. It was attended by 18 representatives of organizations from 8 countries (Romania, Portugal, Poland, Hungary, Ghana, Nigeria, Togo and Tanzania).
The aim of the 2nd training, which took place in Romania, from 26th of November to 5th of December, 2017 was to deepen the global education and street campaigning competencies of the participants based on the concrete experiences, challenges and learning points from the practice phase (where they had to prepare and implement campaigns on global issues). A secondary aim of the training is to also assess the impact of the practice phase, to exchange methods and approaches tried out by each team and to assess the relevance of the campaigns in the local communities (where they were delivered). Each team or participant encountered different challenges in the practice phase, different realities and based on the concrete process of implementing street campaigns in their community specific learning needs emerged in order for all multipliers to be tackled in the second training! After this training each team immediately put in practice the learning outcomes of the training –they implemented one more campaign for at least 400 people in order to put in action the newly sharped competencies. Our campaigns took place in Chiuiesti village and Dej Town in Romania. Our goal was to raise awareness about the global problems, to share solutions and how people can contribute to solving them and make them realise the importance of taking care of our planet. We reached approximately 700 people and the local media helped us spread our message even further. After this, the volunteers, our organisation and the local community gained a wider knowledge about these issues and became more aware of the importance of contributing to solving them.
"Plastic is not fantastic" is the name of the first street campaign done in Poland. It took place in Reicha and 200 people were reached. The objective of the campaign was to encourage people to use less plastic.
In Togo, the chosen topic was reuse, reduce and recycle. The campaign took place in a market and it reached hundreds of people.
Practice phase I
July 2017, at Ilala market We did the campaign about plastic use, especially giving awareness to people to reduce, reuse, recycle and stopping using plastic due to its effect to the environment. The team comprised about 47 volunteers from different youth groups. We managed to reach 800 people and got both positive and festive reaction about the situation of plastics in the environment and the way forward to control it. During the summer of 2017, we did our first practice phase within the project of Animate the Global Change. The aim of the campaign was to create awareness among locals, on sustainable development, with special attention on the problematic of the excess of waste (soda cans) and its disadvantages. Together with a local partner we prepared a big artistic installation for the streets of Câmara de Lobos, by reusing empty soda cans and exhibited to the public during the summer festivities. During the opening of the exhibition, small groups of ⅔ people will be walking through the exhibition explaining the concept of the project and explaining the above-mentioned issues (excess of waste, disadvantages of using cans, drinking soda, impacts on environment, advantages of using returnable materials, among others).
